Reflection - All My Sons

Reflection:
1.       Reading a play is different because it's a bunch of dialogs composed together. I didn't enjoyed reading the play because the dialogs in it are very confusing, each time other character speaks and I always have to pay attention who said what.  Sometimes, I got confused and I don’t understand the whole dialog.
2.       The character that I found the most interesting is Steve, because he's a character that we know least about, and we never had the chance to hear and know his side in the story and his feelings. I'm interesting in what Steve would say to Joe Keller if he would meet him.

3.       Comparing and Contrasting between the different characters helped me to understand better each character and their different point of view. For example, Chris believed that Larry died and Kate didn’t. Inferring helped me understand better what the characters sometimes mean. For example, when Kate said to Joe "We all got hit by the same lightning" – she meant that they all were affected by the same things (the war, the case). Uncovering Motives helped me understand why the characters acted the way they did. For example, when Joe offered Steve a job when he will be released, he did it because he wanted to compensate Steve for what he did, so that he wouldn’t remind the case again.

Alll my sons post reading

post reading A different ending all my sons

George came to the Keller’s house trying to prevent Ann from marrying Chris. He did not succeed in fulfilling the purpose he came for. Afterwards George went to see his father and told him that he couldn’t change Ann’s mind. Steve got so mad and angry, he promised himself that he wouldn’t let them take Ann so easily.

10 years have passed, and in that time, Chris and Ann got married, they lived in a house next to Joe’s and Kate’s house. It seemed like everyone forgot all about the past and they accepted Larry’s death after reading his letter, in which he have(gr.-had) wrote(gr.-written) that he was going on a risky mission and that he was hoping to return home and support Joe through the case investigation. Everything was perfect. Joe's business was fine, Ann and Chris were happy and even Kate somehow accepted Larry’s death and started smiling again, but then, Steve was released.

The Kellers expected Steve’s and George’s arrival and they were a little nervous because of it. When they arrived, the Kellers tried to be as nice and friendly as possible but, Steve and George immediately engaged (in) a fierce discussion in which, they demanded Ann to come back home with them. Ann refused and Chris, Joe and Kate supported her. Steve got so mad, that he pulled out a gun from his pocket, aiming towards Chris, threatening Ann that he would kill Chris. George, who was standing next to Steve couldn’t believe what he saw. He shoved his father in the hope of stopping him and then a shot was heard in the house. George got shot by mistake, Steve then took George in his hands while tears stared dropping from his eyes. Steve just cried and shouted: what have I done!?!?!?!?

It's very sad, but also very imaginative of you. I don't know how you thought of such an ending. Well done!

Bridging text and context

Bridging text and context

The information mentioned that Arthur miller came from a wealthy family which eventually lost everything in the Wall Street Crash of 1929. Therefore, Arthur had to work before school in order to help provide for the family. Arthur Miller is described as an  author who usually writes plays that address social and political issues. His work often includes the conflict of the personal needs and wishes versus the responsibility for the society, and moral corruption caused by materialism and greed.

In the play, “All My Sons”, Arthur’s early and tough
life is reflected mainly by Joe Keller and his appreciation for material wealth. Joe, started as a poor guy who by hard work managed to change his economic state. In the play the differences between Joe Keller and his son Chris present the conflict between responsibilities for the family verses the social one. Keller’s materialism and family values corrupted his ethical morals. Keller Justified shipping cracked cylinder heads for the army air force that eventually caused the deaths of 21 pilots, by saying that he did it for the family's well being. Joe claimed that if he had not sent the cracked cylinder heads he would have lost the contract with the army. As a result, his business, which he worked all his life to build up, would have fallen apart and so would their convenient life . Chris, as an idealist and a soldier, had been expected to hand over his father to the police. But, he surrendered under the pressure of the family value and being a part of the family,he did not report his father to the police.

After reading the information I understand better the main theme of the play. Now, I understand that there is not only one theme, the theme is a Complex of Moral questions and conflicts. Is the responsibility to the family more important than the responsibilities to the society and the community? Are we
forbidden from fulfilling our own selfish wishes? Can moral corruption be justified and forgiven? Can we appreciate something that we always had and got used to ?.

I love your work, and it is evident that you put a lot of effort in it. Well done!

Dear Sir/Madam,

I have been (a) loyal customer to(ww.) your company for a long time. I'm writing to express my dissatisfaction with your recent price changes.

Yesterday, when I entered to(מיותר) one of your companies shop, I was surprised to find out that all your products have been raised by 30% and more. Because of that fact I can no longer afford myself(מיותר) to buy in your company(מיותר) shop(s). I believe that a lot of other customers have the same problem as I do.  I have no idea what caused you to raise the prices of all your products.

However, I have a suggestion that can help both you and the customers. I suggest you to(מיותר) lower your prices even more than they were before(phr.) for people how(sp.-who) could(gr.) not afford buying(gr.-to buy) in your shops before. That way your company will have much(ww.) more customers and income(phr.). (I) Hope you got(ww.) my point of view and that I soon could(ww+gr.- will soon be able to) afford buying in your shops again.

I look forward to your reply

yours truly,
Or Cohen

Nice work.

How can become more involved in their communities?

Nowadays, we can see that less students volunteer every year. The help of the students in the community is a valuable essence(ww.) and they have lots of great things to offer the community. Therefore, we have to try and motivate more students to volunteer.

One of the ways to motivate students to volunteer is making most of their school activities to an active volunteer day(phr.-not clear what you mean). For example, the school can take the students to soup kitchens as an education(al)  and meaningful trip, or take the students to farms to help the farmers. Making volunteering as(מיותר) part of the students' life(gr.) might cause some of them to volunteer on a regular base.

Another way to motivate students to volunteer is demand the students to volunteer in the community, in order to have a bagrut(certificate). However, there should be wide volunteering options that would (be) suitable (for) each and every student. For example, a musical volunteering group,
volunteer(ing) with animals, volunteer(ing)  with children, volunteer(gr.) with people that have mental retardation(phr.). That way, every student would have to volunteer but they would have the option to choose what of the groups(ww.) they want to take a part in.

In conclusion, we have to motivate the students to volunteer. The students might get some values from the volunteering and get self satisfaction. A teenager who volunteers might grow up to an adult who volunteers and helps a lot to the community(phr.)

Nice

red handed

Getting caught red handed is one of the most awkward situations that
most of us feel ashamed after(ww.-about) and its very hard to forget(phr.-can't forget).I want(ww.would like) to tell you about one time that I got caught and I’ll(gr.-would) never forget.

It was in the fourth grade and I(מיותר) back than (I) had a teacher named Mally.
Mally had given lots of home work which I rarely did. Therefore, Mally asked me to ask my mother to sign in my notebook that she knows(gr.) that I haven’t(gr.) been doing my homework. I didn’t want my mother to know, so
instead, I signed my brotherThe following day, I showed the signature to my teacher and she was pleased. But after the lesson, she was surprised to find out that I haven’t(gr.) made(ww.) homework …again(surprising isn’t it ?) .

In(ww.) that day my mother forgot her keys and went to school to take my keys. Mally saw my mother and wanted to speak with her, (New sentence) she asked my mother: “why didn’t  Perry make homework again, even after you signed that you knew about it”. My mother didn’t know what Mally was talking about. I was in panic and I didn’t know what to do, so I tried tricking my mother's memory saying: “mother, don’t you remember that you signed on it (ww.- in my notebook) yesterday ?!” thinking that she is(gr.) old and she might “buy” it, but she did not… (Something is missing here. What happened when after that...?)

I felt so ashamed and stupid that I tried to lie and I promised to my self since that day that I would always do my homework.
This is better.

Dear editor,

Last week you published an article about meizav tests, saying they should be canceled.
In my opinion, standardized tests are an important tool.

In the article Yair Lapid said that standardized tests don’t measure intelligence and I agree with that. However, the thing that they do measure and is not less important, is the efforts of the students to succeed. Most of the times students who work hard and do their best,  succeed and have higher grades, and that thing(מיותר) in my opinion is the most important thing to measure.  It says(ww.) that the person who did the standardized test and succeeded in them is diligent and a hard worker that would do his best in everthing in life.

Standardized tests give to students hard time(phr.), teachers and schools who don’t succeed in them(This sentence is incomplete), (Start a new sentence) therefore, the results should stay in the hands of (the) ministry (of) education that should use it to improve and support the less successful schools and students, and by that improve the education system and use those tests in a beneficial way. I Hope you got my point of view.

Sincerely yours,
Danny Cohen

This is much better. Well done.
